How to love your body the way it is, is one of the most asked questions I get. As women, we are always taught that to have a good body we have to try and take up less space.
Well, I’m here to tell you that That’s Bullshit!
When I first started taking photos and blogging and posting on Instagram a few years ago one of the silliest things I thought about when I started was that I was not skinny enough to do any of it. Back then, there was no representation for women like me, and it wasn’t until the body confidence movement started and I got my own head out of my ass that I realized that –
- I was Plus Size, because I did not fit into standard sizes at all.
- There was absolutely nothing wrong with it.
- I was not going to continue to over exercise and starve myself to be something that I was not.
- If I wanted to see representation of women like me I was going to have to join in and start posting my damn self.
To be honest, when I first started posting photos I was so nervous about being judged. I feared the day when an internet troll would try to break my recently ignited confidence, but instead of a whole bunch of hate I got support and messages from women who said looking at my posts helped them. Plus there’s that handy block button for the sad sacks who try and pick on people. Slowly but surely I started to post more and with it my outfits became a bit more daring and a tad more revealing and I started to have no problem wearing my clothing out.
I started to learn that if I let fear hold me back then I would never accomplish anything in life.
I think a lot of people think that one day I woke up and everything was okay in the world and that I was able love my body, and that is a lie.
In the beginning I had days when I would sit in front of my mirror and cry because of the way my stomach looked that morning. There were also days when I hated the fact that I had a double chin.
Think of body confidence and loving yourself like a river. It ebbs and flows. There are going to be days when you start to doubt yourself and negative thoughts come back in, because that’s life. There is nothing in this world that is perfect all of the time. Trust me. I can say though that as you start to walk this path the days of hating what you look like and being self-conscious will start to be replaced by smiling at yourself in the mirror as you pass and loving the way you look until the good days outweigh the bad. That is all we can hope for.
I hope you all decide to walk this path with me, and make sure to leave a comment below and let me know how this all started for you.
